Share your Passion for Mathematics Competition

The International Day of Mathematics (IDM) is a worldwide celebration of all that Mathematics has brought to humanity: advancements in technologies, engineering, industry, sciences, health, and philosophy. The discipline has contributed significantly to improve many aspects of our daily lives and it has certainly lived up to its reputation as the queen of all the sciences.

On March 14 of every year, all countries around the world are invited to celebrate mathematics through various activities in schools, museums, libraries, and other public spaces. It is a way to celebrate the beauty, elegance, and power of Mathematical Sciences. In recent years, Canada has ranked at the bottom of the list of countries who reported activities celebrating Mathematics.

This year, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Ottawa and the Canadian Mathematical Society would like to celebrate the 2023 IDM with schools from all corners of Canada. To this end, we are launching a new initiative to encourage young students to learn more about mathematics and share with others the importance of discipline in our society. Through this initiative, we are hoping to raise awareness about the importance of Math education in our society.
We invite you to encourage schools in your communities to participate in this competition and to register their activities at https://www.idm314.org/organize
