To mark this year’s International Day of Mathematics (March 14, 2024), the Canadian Mathematical Society and the University of Ottawa are partnering up to host an online photo competition that encourages you to explore the world of mathematics.
The theme announced on Idm314.org aims to inspire creativity, highlighting the intricate connections between mathematics and various fields, concepts, and ideas. We invite you to participate in this year’s challenge by incorporating mathematics into an ordinary object or location, and then share a photo of your creation.
The CMS and the University of Ottawa will select three entries randomly to receive prizes. All entries are encouraged, but prizes can only be given to addresses in Canada. The prizes are a $100 Amazon gift card and two $50 Indigo gift cards (given separately). The draw will take place on Monday, March 18.
Remember, creativity knows no bounds, and we can’t wait to see how you bring math to life in unexpected ways. So, grab your camera, let your imagination soar, and capture the magic of mathematics in the world around you. With your unique perspective and a touch of mathematical flair, you might just be one of the lucky winners.
Don’t forget to also submit your photo on the International Day of Mathematics website to showcase our participation in Canada! Click here to submit your photo on IDM.org.
