Results for the 2026 Canadian Lynx Mathematical Competition Released

The Canadian Mathematical Society is pleased to share the results of the 2026 Canadian Lynx Mathematical Competition (CLMC), which took place on October 1st and 2nd.

Nearly 3,000 students at 132 different institutions wrote the exam, in 12 different countries. The median score was 38.00, and of the ten students who achieved a perfect score of 80.00, four are Canadian:

  • Patrick Li (Grandview Heights)
  • Tiger Li (Leading Aces Academy)
  • Luke Yan (Laureates Academy)
  • Angelina Zhang (InThinking GIC)

Dr. Richard Hoshino, chair of the CLMC Committee, offers his congratulations to the participating students:

Congratulations to everyone who participated in this year’s Canada Lynx Mathematical Competition.  We hope you enjoyed solving the challenging problems.  We thank you for your participation and we hope you will write this competition again next year!

A complete list of award recipients can be found here. Teachers may log in to the competition portal to view their students’ detailed results and download certificates.

The CMS extends heartfelt congratulations to all 2026 CLMC participants for their hard work. Following another successful CLMC, the Society now looks ahead to its next competitions – the Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC, October 29, 2026 – Register before October 21!) and the Canada Jay Mathematical Competition (CJMC, November 19, 2026 – Register before November 12!).

About the Canada Lynx Mathematical Competition (CLMC)
The Canada Lynx Mathematical Competition (CLMC) is the newest CMS math competition, for  students in grades 7-12, with questions based primarily on grades 7-11 core curriculum.

The CLMC is meant to foster interest and to increase confidence among students when it comes to their math abilities. The competition presents mathematics as a fun and playful subject to students. It is also a good tool for teachers to assess students’ mathematical skills at the beginning of the school year. The CLMC consists of 15 multiple-choice questions, which are divided in three parts and progress in difficulty.

About the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS)
