Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) is pleased to announce that Antonio Lei and Javad Mashreghi have been appointed as the incoming Editors-in-Chief of the Canadian Mathematical Bulletin (CMB), commencing on January 1st, 2019.

Antonio Lei is a faculty member at Laval University. In the short 9 years after he obtained his PhD from University of Cambridge he has published more than 30 papers in some of the most prestigious journals in Mathematics. His works cover a wide range of topics, including Algebra, Number Theory, Algebraic Geometry, K-theory, Non-Archimedean Analysis, Homological Algebra and Representation Theory.

Javad Mashreghi is a faculty member at Laval University and the author of more than 90 papers, 9 books and 8 proceedings. He received the G. de B. Robinson Award of CMS for his publication at the Canadian Journal of Mathematics in 2004 and has published papers on a wide variety of subjects such as complex analysis, operator theory, function theory, matrix theory, functional analysis, potential theory, optimization, mathematical biology, electrical engineering and metallurgy.

The President of the Society, Mark Lewis, welcomes professors Antonio Lei and Javad Mashreghi as new Editors-in-Chief for the Canadian Mathematical Bulletin and is confident that “this excellent team will continue the tradition of high quality Editors-in-Chief and ensure the journal’s future success and profile among the Canadian and international mathematics community.”

Dr. Lei has been member of numerous scientific committees, including the selection committees for the CRM-ISM postdoctoral scholarships and the Carl Herz Prize. He has given invited lecture series at the PIMS, National Taiwan University and Bernoulli Center, EPFL. Since 2014, he is one of the organisers of the Quebec-Maine Number Theory Conference, which is an international conference attended by mathematicians from New England, Eastern Canada, and beyond. He was also a member of the scientific committee of the 15th International Number Theory Conference organized by the Canadian Number Theory Association in 2018, which was attended by more than 200 mathematicians from all over the world.

Dr. Mashreghi has been on the editorial boards of CJM, CMB, and Concrete Operators. Presently, he and William T. Ross are Editors-in-Chief of Concrete Operators. He was the chair of pure math section in the evaluation group of NSERC for the “Discovery Grant” in 2016. He has served in the Scientific Advisory Panel of AARMS (two mandates) and in the Executive Committee of CMS as the Vice-President (Québec). He is member at large of the Publication Committee of AMS, and is about to finish his mandate as the Chair of Publication Committee of CMS.

About the Canadian Mathematical Bulletin (CMB)

The Canadian Mathematical Bulletin was established in 1958 to publish original, high-quality research papers in all branches of mathematics and to accommodate the growing demand for shorter research papers. The Bulletin is a companion publication to the Canadian Journal of Mathematics that publishes longer papers. New research papers are published continuously online and are collated into print issues four times each year.

About the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS)

Founded in 1945, the CMS is the main national organization whose goal is to promote and advance the discovery, learning and application of mathematics. The Society’s activities cover the whole spectrum of mathematics including scientific meetings, publications, grants, math camps and national and international mathematics competitions, as well as awards and prizes that recognize outstanding achievements.
