Dr. Termeh Kousha Appointed Chief Executive Officer of the CMS

Ottawa, ON – The Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) is pleased to announce that Dr. Termeh Kousha’s title has changed from Executive Director to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Society. This change comes as part of the CMS’s ongoing governance review and better reflects the scope of Dr. Kousha’s responsibilities and her work in supporting the Society’s day-to-day operations and long-term success.

Since joining the CMS Executive Office in 2018, Dr. Kousha has played a central role in strengthening the Society and supporting its continued growth. She has helped bring greater stability, structure, and professionalism to the Society’s operations, while also improving its financial and administrative footing. Her leadership has been especially important during periods of transition and uncertainty, including guiding the CMS through the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic and supporting continuity across staff, governance, programs, and member services.

The CMS staff expressed their appreciation for Dr. Kousha’s leadership and offered their congratulations on this new appointment:

“We are very happy to congratulate Termeh on this well-deserved promotion. Her dedication to the CMS, her thoughtful leadership, and her support for the staff have had a lasting impact on the Society and on all of us who work alongside her.”

Dr. Kousha has also been closely involved in advancing many of the Society’s key initiatives, including the creation of CMS day camps, the launch of two new open competitions, the growth of existing competitions, as well as meetings, publications, and outreach activities. In addition, her work has supported major institutional milestones for the CMS, including the purchase of the House of Math, which has provided the Society with a permanent home and an important foundation for its future activities.

In her new role as CEO, Dr. Kousha will continue to lead the CMS Executive Office and work closely with the Executive Board, committees, members, and partners to support the Society’s mission and strengthen its role in Canada’s mathematical community.
