Canadian Mathematical Society Proud to Host the 2027 Applied Inverse Problems Conference

Ottawa, ON – The Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) is proud to announce that Canada, with the CMS’s proposal, has won the bid to host the 2027 Applied Inverse Problems (AIP) Conference in Calgary, Alberta. This major international event will take place from August 1–6, 2027. CMS will oversee all logistical planning and operational needs for the conference on behalf of the Inverse Problems International Association.

Inverse Problems is a branch of mathematics underlying numerous important applications: medical imaging technologies (such as CT-scans, MRI, ultrasound and others); satellite-based remote sensing; geophysical imaging; non-destructive testing of the build environment; various smart watch apps—among many others. The underlying mathematical problem concerns the relationship between solutions to partial differential equations in a restricted region, which correspond to observed data, and the variable coefficients of the equations, which encode physical structure. The prestigious biannual AIP meeting includes plenary lectures by leading mathematicians, and numerous minisymposia on a variety of specialized topics.

As Canada’s largest mathematical organization, CMS is uniquely well-positioned to organize and host a conference of the scale and significance of the 2027 AIP Conference. CMS staff have the training, experience, infrastructure, and resources required to ensure the success of such a large-scale international event.

With its national reach, established expertise, and proven capacity to support major math events, CMS is well-equipped to serve as a trusted planning and logistical partner for other organizations seeking to facilitate, organize, or host mathematical conferences beyond the 2027 AIP Conference. CMS welcomes proposals for 2028 and later from national and international partners and organizations looking for experienced, reliable, and comprehensive conference support.

To discuss ideas, proposals, or potential partnerships, please contact Dr. Termeh Kousha (CEO, Canadian Mathematical Society) at tkousha@cms.math.ca

The CMS website will be updated with further information about the 2027 AIP Conference, as it becomes available: cms.math.ca.

About the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS)

The Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) is the main national organization whose goal is to promote and advance the discovery, learning and application of mathematics. The Society’s activities cover the whole spectrum of mathematics, including meetings, research publications, and the promotion of excellence in mathematics competitions that recognize outstanding student achievements. The CMS is a registered non-profit, charitable organization and depends on grants, funding, and generous donations from sponsors, benefactors and community members to be able to carry out its activities.
