The School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a tenure-track position in the field (all areas) of Mathematics and/or Statistics at the rank of Assistant Professor, with a starting date of January 1, 2025.  This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.

About UPEI:

The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is located on Epekwitk, part of the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaw nation. This territory is covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship, which recognize Mi’kmaw title and establish the ongoing relationship between the Mi’kmaw nation and the Crown.

The School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences at UPEI consists of twenty-one professors and three instructors, and offers Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Financial Mathematics, and Analytics.  The School is currently in a period of growth, with the addition of new faculty and increased collaboration with outside partners.

The University of Prince Edward Island is located in the provincial capital of Charlottetown, a bustling tourist destination that boasts the amenities of a much larger city, including excellent theatre, galleries, music, and dining possibilities. A province-wide hiking and biking trail runs right along the UPEI campus, and the National Park beaches and other attractions are a short drive away. Charlottetown and its surrounding communities offer charming semi-rural lifestyle that is second-to-none.

The University of Prince Edward Island offers a flexible working environment, and full-time faculty members receive a comprehensive fringe benefit package, including group life, accidental death and dismemberment, supplemental health, travel insurance, pension, and long-term disability insurance.  The University has a wellness centre, including an on-campus Health Centre that provides health care to faculty and members of their immediate family.  The campus also offers the Bell Aliant Recreational Centre, which includes a pool and ice rinks.

Qualifications:

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent credential) in Mathematics or Statistics. Applicants must also be committed to excellence in teaching, with university teaching experience being a strong asset, should have potential for developing an active research program, and demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusiveness. Postdoctoral experience and ability to teach in Actuarial Science and/or Financial Mathematics will be an asset.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
