Assistant Professor – Teaching Stream

The Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time continuing teaching stream position. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2021.

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in mathematics or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and teaching-related scholarly activities, intellectual curiosity to pursue novel and innovative methods of thinking and teaching mathematics, and commitment to pedagogical enquiry and teaching innovation. In addition, applicants must demonstrate that they have the administrative, organizational, and mentoring skills to coordinate large courses.

Responsibilities include undergraduate teaching, coordination, mentoring of new instructors and teaching assistants, course and curriculum design, professional and pedagogical development, and service to the department.

We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths https://www.math.toronto.edu/cms/people/. Candidates must have teaching expertise in a degree granting program at the undergraduate level, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and teaching related scholarly activities will be provided through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier including a teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations submitted as part of the application, as well as 3-5 strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
