Nomination Requirements
Candidates
- Must have received their Ph.D. within ten years of the year the nomination is made. For example, a degree received in 2015 was eligible for the last time in nominations made during 2025, for the 2026 Prize. Leaves of absence may warrant an exception; nominators should address these explicitly.
- Must be a member of the Canadian mathematical community.
- The CMS aims to promote and celebrate diversity in the broadest sense. We strongly encourage department chairs and nominating committees to put forward nominations for outstanding colleagues for research in the mathematical sciences regardless of race, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation.
- A candidate may be nominated for more than one research prize in the applicable categories; several candidates from the same institution can be nominated for the same research prize.
Nominators
- Provide a nomination letter describing the candidate's suitability for this award,
- Provide a recent CV for the candidate, and
- Provide at least three names of other supporters who have agreed to provide recommendation letters by the deadline.
Recipients
- Will be asked to prepare a prize lecture and present it at the Winter Meeting.
Nominations are currently welcomed for the
2027 Coxeter-James Prize.

Selection Committee
The recipient of this Prize, as well as the other Research prizes, is chosen by the CMS Research Committee based on the strength of the nominations.
Please note that, throughout the selection process, selection committees must abide by the Conflict of Interest Instructions for Awards & Prizes Selection Committees.
The Selection Committee reserves the right to consider a nomination for one of the research prizes for any other, applicable prize.
Nomination Retention
Nominations not successful in their first year of consideration may be updated during the period when nominations are accepted and will be considered in the following year unless beyond the 10 year window.
