Nomination Requirements

Candidates

  • Have made a sustained and significant service contribution to the Canadian mathematical community. Contributions might include: service to the Canadian Mathematical Society and/or its activities; initiatives to advance mathematical publishing in Canada; activities in support of a strong research environment in Canada; creation of new national initiatives in support of mathematics.
  • The CMS aims to promote and celebrate diversity in the broadest sense. We strongly encourage nominations for outstanding colleagues regardless of race, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation.

Nominators

  • Are a present or past colleague, or collaborator with direct knowledge of the candidate's contribution.
  • Provide a nomination letter detailing the suitability of the candidate for the award. Maximum 3 pages.
  • Provide two to four names of other supporters who have agreed to provide a recommendation letter before the deadline.
  • Provide a copy of the candidate's CV.
  • May also provide other supporting materials, as a single PDF. Maximum 10 pages.

Next cycle: 2027 Award. Nominations open 1 January 2027.

Selection Committee

The recipient is chosen by the Distinguished Awards Selection Committee based on the strength and merit of the nominations.

Please note that, throughout the selection process, selection committees must abide by the Conflict of Interest Instructions for Awards & Prizes Selection Committees.

Eligibility and Nomination Retention

Only nominations that meet the stated requirements by the deadline stated will be considered for selection.

A nomination that is not selected in the current award cycle will be retained for consideration in the following  two cycles (unless explicitly withdrawn).
