The European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad is an international competition in mathematics. The EGMO addresses high school students identifying as women whose commitment to mathematics goes beyond the usual school curriculum. Since 2012, the EGMO is held each year in a different country.
The EGMO is the only international Math Olympiad, which exclusively addresses contestants identifying as women. As such it is an additional opportunity for the participating countries to counteract the low proportion of women. The long term goal of the EGMO is to raise the proportion of students identifying as female in the participating teams of the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
The Canadian Mathematical Society respects the gender identity of all contestants and encourages cis and trans women to join and participate in our inclusive math community. The Canadian EGMO team is selected from female-identifying competitors who score highly on the COMC. Schools and candidates should be aware that not identifying their gender when registering for COMC may lead to a competitor missing out on consideration.
Scholarship Opportunities: Some Canadian Universities have special scholarship opportunities for high-performing mathematics problem solvers. Read more here.
