2025 EGMO: Introducing Girls’ Math Team Canada!
Ottawa, ON – The Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) is delighted to announce the members of Girls’ Math Team Canada, who will represent the country at the 2025 European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO). For the eighth consecutive year, the CMS is proud to send a Canadian team to this important event celebrating and empowering girls in STEM.
Introducing Girls’ Math Team Canada for the 2025 EGMO:
- Honjar Xing (Stanford University Online High School, Grade 12)
- Sophie Zhang (Havergal College, Grade 11)
- Yifan (Emma) Tang (University of Toronto Schools, Grade 12)
- Yingshan (Shanna) Xiao (Oakville Trafalgar High School, Grade 12)
The 2025 EGMO will take place in Prishtina, Kosovo, from April 11th to 17th. Each student will complete individually to solve six questions, in a competition lasting two days, four and a half hours each day.
Girls’ Math Team Canada 2025 is led by Kate Tretiakova (McMaster University) and Deputy Leader Courtney Allen (University of New Brunswick).
The CMS wishes to acknowledge and thank Jane Street for its generous support, which has played a pivotal role in empowering these talented young mathematicians to represent Canada on this prestigious international stage. Jane Street’s commitment to fostering excellence in STEM aligns well with our mission of cultivating and celebrating the next generation of mathematicians.
The CMS looks forward to Girls’ Math Team Canada’s participation in the 2025 EGMO, and extends thanks to the entire mathematical community for their support of this team.
About the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO)
The European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) is an international mathematics competition similar in style to the International Mathematical Olympiad, with two papers taken on consecutive days. Participating countries send teams consisting of four female mathematicians of school age. The EGMO was first held in 2012 in Cambridge, United Kingdom. Canada has been participating in the EGMO since 2018.
