The Mathematics Department at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver Campus) seeks an outstanding research mathematician to fill a position at the rank of Associate Professor with tenure, starting August 1, 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter. A PhD (or equivalent) is required; the successful candidate must also have demonstrated effectiveness in undergraduate teaching and research supervision, and succeeded in competing for research program funding at the national level. The scope and impact of applicants' research contributions to date will have a strong influence on the search. Priority research areas are Number Theory and Representation Theory – specifically, representations of p-adic groups in characteristic p, and the Local Langlands Program for p-adic representations of p-adic groups.
The successful applicant must work in an area of interest to current faculty, and will be expected to interact with related groups in the Department, to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and to supervise graduate students. The salary will be commensurate with experience and research record.
