Job Description
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics of Université Laval invites applications for a tenure-track position in statistics. Although all areas of specialization in statistics will be considered, a particular expertise or strong interest in data science, biostatistics or stochastic modeling will be prioritized. The appointment will normally be at the rank of assistant professor, with expected starting date in the summer of 2024.
Functions
The appointee will be expected to
carry out and publish research work in their field of expertise,
solicit funding from the main granting agencies,
recruit and supervise graduate students,
teach statistics courses in French at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels, including service courses to large classes,
contribute to the management and promotion of the department’s programs,
and, more generally, participate in the development and proper functioning of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, the Faculty of Science and Engineering and Université Laval.
Selection criteria
Hold, or be about to obtain, a doctorate (or a degree deemed equivalent) in statistics, biostatistics or a relevant discipline
Demonstrate ability, or potential, to provide excellent university teaching at all levels
Demonstrate skills for research, and potential to develop a productive, autonomous and original research program
Demonstrate ability, or potential, to recruit and supervise graduate students in the department’s statistics or biostatistics programs
Demonstrate potential for, or commitment to, community service
Be able to teach in French, or commit to being able to do so within one year, and have the ability to integrate into the francophone environment of the institution within a reasonable time frame
Demonstrate professional potential in line with the key skills necessary to exercise the role of a university professor:
Analysis, capacity for synthesis and judgment
Creativity and innovation
Communication skills
Relational skills and openness
Teamwork and collaboration with partners
Autonomy and sense of responsibility
Sense of ethics and duty

Salary according to the collective agreement in force.

a document (maximum of two pages) detailing their teaching philosophy,
up to three articles (reprints or preprints).
