Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at The University of Winnipeg invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor. Subject to budgetary approval, this position will commence July 1, 2021. Salary levels will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will be welcomed into a supportive and collegial department with a record of teaching and research excellence. The University of Winnipeg ranks highly among primarily undergraduate universities for external science grant funding, and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics has a strong record of success in obtaining research funding. The department has seventeen regular faculty members.  Further information about the department, including descriptions of courses offered and faculty research interests is available at https://www.uwinnipeg.ca/mathstats/.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in mathematics and have an active research program. The successful candidate will have a record of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, provide evidence of high-quality research, and have a strong potential for external research funding. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work well with colleagues and students.

Individuals with expertise in any area of pure mathematics are invited to apply. Preference will be given to applicants with a record of research excellence in combinatorics, representation theory or functional analysis. The main criteria for selecting a candidate will be teaching excellence and research excellence.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to: teach a wide range of courses in mathematics at the undergraduate level; supervise student research projects; establish and maintain an active research program; and apply for external research funding. As well, the successful candidate will be expected to work collegially with department members and to participate in Departmental and University service.
