Position Description:
The Tutte Institute for Mathematics and Computing (TIMC) is seeking highly qualified candidates to fill multiple research positions. Applicants at all career stages and from all areas of mathematics (including, but not limited to, number theory, algebra, algebraic geometry, probability & statistics, machine learning, combinatorics) and related disciplines are invited to apply.

TIMC is a division of the Research Directorate of Communications Security Establishment (CSE). CSE is Canada’s national cryptologic agency, providing the Government of Canada with information technology security and foreign signals intelligence. TIMC supports the achievement of CSE’s strategic goals through a research program focused on foundational mathematics and computer science, with concentrations in data science and cryptology.

As a research institute situated within the Government of Canada, the environment at TIMC is both professional and collegial. TIMC research staff work on a variety of challenging research problems and employ a variety of methods to solve those problems; at times proving deep mathematical theory and at others utilizing the latest computational resources. A strong candidate will display the ability to adapt their approach and utilize innovative techniques to suit the problem at hand.

Obtaining and maintaining a Government of Canada Top Secret security clearance is a requirement of employment at TIMC. The start date is flexible, taking into account each candidate’s availability and the fact that the security screening process can take up to one year from initiation to completion.

Compensation & Benefits: Salary ranges from $99,861 to $158,120 depending on the qualifications of the candidate. Other advantages include an excellent defined benefit pension plan, public service health and dental plans, and supplemental life insurance.
