Comments on proposed appointment:
While the mathematical landscape has changed considerably over the past half century (I am thinking of the prominent role assumed by mathematics institutes and the impact of electronic communication in particular) many of the current activities of the CMS would still be familiar to a CMS member of the 1950s. I would like to help the executive examine whether or not the CMS should consider making changes in how conferences are organized and how CMS members communicate with each other.
