    Associate Professor Position

The Mathematics Department at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver Campus) seeks an outstanding research mathematician to fill a position at the rank of Associate Professor with tenure, starting August 1, 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter. A PhD (or equivalent) is required; the successful candidate must also have demonstrated effectiveness in undergraduate teaching and research supervision, and succeeded in competing for research program funding at the national level. The scope and impact of applicants' research contributions to date will have a strong influence on the search. Priority research areas are Number Theory and Representation Theory – specifically, representations of p-adic groups in characteristic p, and the Local Langlands Program for p-adic representations of p-adic groups.

The successful applicant must work in an area of interest to current faculty, and will be expected to interact with related groups in the Department, to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and to supervise graduate students. The salary will be commensurate with experience and research record.

Applicants should arrange for a complete application package to arrive at the following address on or before July 8, 2016:

Philip D Loewen, Head
head@math.ubc.ca

The package should include a current CV, including a list of publications, a statement of research and teaching interests, a teaching dossier or similar record of teaching experience, and the names and contact details of four established researchers willing to provide letters of reference. The preferred format is a single PDF file.

Availability of this position is subject to departmental ratification and funding.

The Department is an international leader, with over 60 faculty members in a wide variety of fields. It has strong connections with other mathematical institutes, such as the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS), MITACS, the Banff International Research Station (BIRS), and the UBC Institute of Applied Mathematics (IAM). For more information see http://www.math.ubc.ca.

The University of British Columbia hires on the basis of merit and is committed to employment equity. All qualified persons are encouraged to apply. We especially welcome applications from members of visible minority groups, women, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, persons of minority sexual orientations and gender identities, and others with the skills and knowledge to engage productively with diverse communities. Canadians and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority.
