Tenure-Track Position in Combinatorics
Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Victoria

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Combinatorics, to commence July 1, 2020. We are particularly interested in candidates whose area of research is Algebraic or Probabilistic Combinatorics, or Discrete Optimization.

Applications from candidates in all areas of combinatorics are welcome. We strongly encourage applications from women and other groups underrepresented in the mathematical sciences. In accordance with the university's equity plan and pursuant to Section 42 of the BC Human Rights code, preference will be given to women. Candidates from this group who wish to qualify for preferential consideration must self-identify. A documented record of improving the participation of underrepresented groups in the mathematical sciences and an articulated plan to continue such activities will be considered an asset.

The University of Victoria provides an excellent and active research environment. As a member of the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS), UVic provides excellent opportunities for collaboration and postdoctoral support. The Department itself is very active in research areas within, or intersecting with, combinatorics, in particular combinatorial matrix theory, combinatorial designs, algebraic coding theory, algorithms and complexity, graph theory, combinatorial game theory, probability, optimization and others. The successful candidate will find a supportive, diverse, and intellectually challenging academic environment at the University of Victoria.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in the Mathematical Sciences. The successful candidate will have a strong record of research in Combinatorics, with demonstrated potential for establishing an internationally recognized research program, as demonstrated for example by a solid publication record in highly ranked peer-reviewed journals, and will have the potential for synergy with existing research themes in the Department. The successful candidate will be expected to supervise graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, and will demonstrate excellence or potential for excellence in graduate and undergraduate teaching and mentoring, so as to maintain and enhance the department's high teaching standard.

Applications should be made through mathjobs.org. A complete application will include a cover letter detailing interest in, and experience pertaining to, the position; a research statement; a curriculum vitae; and a teaching dossier. Applicants should arrange for at least four letters of reference to be posted to MathJobs in support of their application. At least one letter should address teaching and mentoring. Questions about this position are welcomed and can be addressed to the Chair of Mathematics and Statistics at mschair@uvic.ca . The Department encourages applicants who have experienced career interruptions for parental or other types of leaves to apply.

Review of applications will begin January 3, 2020 and continue until the position is filled.
