The Department of Mathematics at the University of Manitoba invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level, commencing July 1, 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter. Minimum qualifications are a Ph.D. in Mathematics. The successful candidate will show evidence of strong research potential and a strong commitment to supervising and teaching graduate and undergraduate students. One appointment is expected to be in Algebra, with candidates working in group theory, representation theory, algebraic geometry or computational algebra being given preferential consideration. The other appointment is expected to be in Geometry and Topology, with candidates working in differential geometry, algebraic topology, low-dimensional topology or set-theoretic topology being given preferential consideration.
The Department of Mathematics has 25 full and part-time tenured or tenure-track professors and 5 instructors; it also employs a number of sessional lecturers. The Department offers a full range of undergraduate, M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs, with the opportunity to specialize in a wide range of areas of pure and applied mathematics.
