CMS ELECTION 2017

Please note that the 2017 CMS Election is now closed. The results will be formally approved at the CMS Annual General Meeting (AGM) on July 25, 2017 in Montreal. The results will be announced shortly after approval. Thank you to all those who participated in the 2017 CMS election.

Executive Committee

The following candidates have been nominated to the Executive Committee for two-year terms, except the President-Elect/President/Past-President which is a combined four-year term:

Board of Directors

In addition to the candidates nominated to the Board as members of the Executive Committee, the following candidates have been nominated as directors:

Atlantic Region (2 vacancies: 1 vacancy for four-year term and 1 for two-year term)*:

* Please note that for the Atlantic Region, the one nominee who receives the highest number of votes will be director for a four-year term, and the next highest one for a two-year term.

Quebec Region (2 vacancies for four-year terms)

Ontario Region (4 vacancies: 2 vacancies for four-year terms and 2 for two-year terms)**

** Please note that for the Ontario Region, the two nominees who receive the highest number of votes will be directors for four-year terms, and the next two highest will be directors for two-year terms.

West Region (1 vacancy for a four-year term)

Pacific Region (1 vacancy for a four-year term)

The Election will begin on Monday, May 1 and voting will be open for four (4) weeks until midnight, Friday, May 26. Election results will be reported during the CMS Annual General Meeting and lunch being held on Tuesday, July 25, from 12:30 -2:00 in Montreal as part of the CMS/MCA 2017 Meeting.

CMS ELECTION NOTICE

This year the CMS will be electing seventeen (17) officers and directors. Candidates have to agree to the nomination and provide the committee with biographical information.

You are invited to nominate members to be candidates and their nominations will be accepted by the Nominating Committee prior to April 7, 2017 provided that each person nominated: (i) is supported in writing by at least five (5) other members of the CMS; and (ii) has given written acceptance to stand for office and to supply biographical information.

Nominations are being solicited for the following slate of candidates for the Executive Committee:

  • President-Elect;
  • Vice-President – Atlantic (N.B., P.E.I., N.S., N.L.);
  • Vice-President – Quebec;
  • Vice- President – Ontario;
  • Vice-President – West (Alta., Sask., Man., N.W.T., Nunavut);
  • Vice-President – Pacific (B.C., Yukon);

Nominations are also being solicited for Board of Directors members:

  • Atlantic – 2 members to be elected, one for a 4-year term and one for a 2-year term;
  • Quebec – 2 members to be elected, each for a 4-year term;
  • Ontario – 4 members to be elected, two for 4-year terms and two for 2-year terms;
  • West – 1 member to be elected for a 4-year term;
  • Pacific – 1 member to be elected for a 4-year term; and
  • Student – 1 member to be elected for a 2-year term.

The staggered terms in this election are required in order to complete the transition to the Board structure that was initiated in 2015.

For 2017, the CMS will hold the election at the July Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Montreal, Quebec. Updated information will be periodically e-mailed to members and posted on the CMS website at: https://cms.math.ca/Elections/2017/

If you are unable to attend the AGM, you can participate in the electronic advance poll coming in April.
