Applications are being accepted for a tenured faculty position at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor in the Department of Pure Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. The successful candidate will be expected to assume a leadership role in an area of pure mathematics that is consistent with the Department's long--term research plans. Duties include research, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and supervising graduate students.
The Department of Pure Mathematics has 23 full--time faculty members and 1 cross--appointed faculty member. It is one of five academic units within the Faculty of Mathematics, the first such faculty in North America. The research interests of the Department include algebra and logic, geometry and topology, harmonic analysis, number theory, and operator algebras. Some of the Department's faculty members also have ties with the nearby Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. The Department has a substantial graduate program, currently with 34 graduate students pursuing Masters or PhD degrees. The undergraduate program in pure mathematics is well known for its rigour and the strong preparation it provides students continuing on to graduate programs in pure mathematics.
Candidates interested in this exciting leadership position should have a PhD or equivalent in pure mathematics and an outstanding record in research. Serious consideration will be given to the candidate's potential for success in graduate student supervision, the candidate's record in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and evidence of effective leadership.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This appointment is expected to commence during the 2013 calendar year.
Applications must include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a research statement, and three letters of reference. Applicants and referees may submit their applications and reference letters respectively online at http://www.mathjobs.org/jobs/job/3681. Although applications will be considered as soon as possible after they are complete and as long as the position is available, full consideration is assured for those received by June 15, 2012.
