Abstract
It is shown that the group of compactly
supported, measure-preserving homeomorphisms of a
connected, second countable manifold is locally contractible in the direct limit topology.
Furthermore, this group is weakly homotopically equivalent to the more general group of
compactly supported homeomorphisms.
